Being immersed in a sea of persuasion.....
We are all immersed in a sea of persuasion because we all live in the same world. Every where around us there is an ad or commercial or even friends that persuade us to do or even buy something. There is no escaping it because it is all around us and since it is around us we hardly even notice it any more. An example of persuasive messages is the commercials on television or the public speakers at school talking to kids about staying away from drugs and alcohol. To become a more critical consumer a person must first know what he or she wants and not just persuaded into anything. After a person figures this out then they know what exactly to look for.

I agree, we live in the same world and are influenced by the things around us constantly. I think so many of the things we see in advertisements persuade us to be, act, and purchase whatever is in the message. Your example of public speakers about youngsters and drugs was a good example. It is unfortunate that so many people still do drugs. A lot of what the media exposes causes the viewers to be drawn in and some bring that into their lives like drugs. Your advice for how to be a critical consumer was a little unclear to me but I guess what you are trying to say is that the consumer should have there own expectation and standards before deciding anything?
