What I found interesting
What I found interesting in reading was the sources of speech anxiety. All the uncertainties that were motioned are the same uncertainties that I have. Now I know that I am not the only one who has them and that makes me feel a little bit more comfortable about speaking in front of others. I didn’t realize my uncertainty about the setting. When I read it I realized that it was true, being in the classroom I am so use to sitting on the desk listening to the teacher. But once the roles are switched I start to feel uncomfortable. I guess that this is trying to say that anything that we are not use to we feel uncomfortable because we aren’t use to it. The different ways to build your confidence will also help with my public speaking skills because whenever I get nervous I can use them.

Hey Sheryl!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the whole role as a student and sitting at a desk observing the teacher. But when that role is switched, it's a totally different feeling. I think it all has to do with being confident in a way [I can't think of the exact word]. Basically, when it comes down to me giving a speech, I'm afraid that what I'm saying isn't right or I could have misinterpreted the information somehow and presented it all wrong. Makes sense? Haha.
Overall, like the book says, everyone still has some kinda anxiety when it comes down to giving speeches. You'll do fine I'm sure! Everyone does well as long as you prepare. :]
Sheryl,
ReplyDeleteAs Genurr has said, "I am so use to sitting on the desk listening to the teacher," is true in every way. I think since we're so used to listening to what someone says, saying something ourselves in the front creates an uncomfortable situation in where we don't want to disappoint the audience. Teachers usually have that experience and knowledge which could potentially make them comfortable in front of the class.
I think if we were forced to be up in front of the class more often, particularly for shy people (like myself haha), we'd be more comfortable to do any speech in any class. Anxiety is common, and I'm sure that we're at least learning a little bit through this class.
